About Our Judo

Judo is an unarmed modern Japanese martial art, combat sport, Olympic sport, and the most prominent form of jacket wrestling competed internationally. Monash Judo helps develop a diverse range of fitness; utilising aerobic and anaerobic systems, flexibility, joint mobility, isometric strength and explosive power. Enjoy competition with both the State Judo body and the Varsity Judo program. For the non-competitive people, Judo is an excellent recreational and social sport too.

Monash University Judo offers a safe space for all levels to learn and practice. We offer regular training and a structured curriculum that will test you mentally and physically.

Kids practice Judo

Our Programs

We offer structured judo programs tailored to different experience levels. Whether you're a complete beginner or have prior training, there's a place for you at Monash Judo Club.

Judo Technical: Learn the foundational techniques of judo, including (nage-waza 投げ技), pins, joint locks (ne-waza 寝技) and light sparrings(Randori 乱取り). Ideal for both beginners and experience Judokas.

Brazilian jiu-jitsu: Focuses on grappling techniques derived from Brazilian jiu-jitsu and modern submission wrestling. Sessions include joint locks, chokes, transitions, and positional control — especially useful for self-defence and ground-based scenarios.

Randori (Sparring) Live, controlled sparring sessions where members can apply what they’ve learned in a dynamic setting. Randori helps build timing, adaptability, and real-match awareness. Open to all members with sufficient technical foundation.

Our coaching team consists of experienced instructors certified by Judo Australia. Each coach brings a unique background in competition, youth instruction, and self-defence, ensuring all students receive well-rounded guidance.

We pride ourselves on being approachable and encouraging, while maintaining the discipline and respect that define judo. Whether you're a nervous beginner or a returning judoka, our coaches will support your journey every step of the way.
